Turkey season. One of the most enjoyable times of year to get outside… yet every year, few bowhunters take the opportunity! Any experienced hunter will tell you they are one of the most intelligent game animals, always aware and ready to fight or fly, which makes hunting them a challenge. HOWEVER, they are good eating and the hunt is fun — two reasons why you can’t knock this season.
The chance to hunt them in southern states is rare, so if you get the chance, have at it and see for yourself! While you may only end up shooting one or two, they are worth it and the hunts are some of the most enjoyable, especially in Sitka’s new turkey vest.
These are the items we will be using on turkey hunts this year and they are the best we could possibly recommend!
With a cushion for sitting on the ground and a pocket for any size call, Sitka has done it again by thinking of EVERYTHING. They just came out with a new color called Earth, which is basically a solid verison of their Timber print (ideal for turkey hunting). Like Timber, it blends in with the pine trees perfectly. We can’t wait to try this one out!
One of our favorites because of many reasons: the light weight, the moisture wicking technology, sure — but most of all the INSECT GUARD. The Equinox Guard works great in hot, humid conditions and dewy mornings on the hunt. And to misquitos it is practically Fort Knox, so sudden swats that give you away are not a problem!
The Equinox Guard pants have similar benefits. They are also our pick for early season hunting because of their lightweight moisture wicking qualities! They are great pants to wear in the heat as well as on cooler, wet mornings.
Yet again, Sitka has thought of everything with these gloves. They have AX Suede palms for durability and thick Nylon Cordura® built into the finger tips and between the fingers to maximize durability. The cuffs are long to pair with the guard hoody for a seamless insect guard fit and the fingers are out so getting your finger on the trigger of your release is no problem!
We don’t carry these anymore but for a very good reason. People love them and they moved quickly. Pecker Wrecker turkey calls are not only a creative and effective way to get turkeys moving, they are easy to use and fit perfectly in the Sitka turkey vest. Aside from that, you got to give them some credit for the names.

About those acute senses… it is never a bad idea to use no-scent on all of your hunting garments. We wash ours in the detergent by no-scent as well as spraying them down before we go into the woods. It eliminates virtually all foreign scents including natural body odor. They have a body wash too if you are looking to go the extra mile!
