It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Yep, it’s the first week of December so we are circulating that tune nonstop — and just a few months behind Hobby Lobby! Everyone seems to be talking about Christmas and, you guessed it, there are a few things we have to say too.
The first thing is this:
If you somehow eluded the Small Business Saturday deals last week, you really missed out. Hate to say we told you so, but there really were some great deals on Saturday — probably the best of the year.
And that many deals at once won’t be back until next year…BUT we have great news!
More sales are coming for Christmas which means it is time to come in for last-minute Christmas gifts! It’s the perfect time of year to show the outdoorsmen in your life how much you appreciate them!
All outdoorsmen look forward to Christmas and chances are we can help you find the perfect gift for them. The issue is, you probably don’t know exactly what “the perfect gift” is.
Male or female, child or adult, it can be hard to buy a gift for someone who just wants to spend time outside.
Chances are, the outdoorsman in your life is one of two types:
The first type is an outdoor professional who has a laptop out the month before Christmas looking up stats on exactly what they need. The lists can get complicated — not like they let anyone see their lists anyway.
No, most outdoorsmen meet any question of “what do you want for Christmas?” with a vague answer… while in reality, they have exactly what they want shipping to their house. It can be hard to buy for someone who is a professional about what they want!
And then there are those who have no idea.
The indecisive, the completely silent, the “don’t get me anything,” and the “I’ll just make it myself,” kind of people are commonly the most valued in our lives. You want to get a gift that will mean something special but also have an actual use greater than a doorstop. And something not dangerous — preferably that doesn’t involve duck tape either.
Confused about what to get that outdoorsman in your life for Christmas? Check out this quick guide to the things in our shop as a ready tool!
Sitka Gear is a great gift for any outdoorsman. It is durable and timeless, both for the intermediate and the advanced. When it comes to functionality, they have something for every climate and every hunter — and when it comes to style, every hunter wants to be seen in Sitka gear.
When it comes to Christmas gift buying, however, it is as easy as reading hieroglyphics. You just have to know the language!
A few pointers if you are new to the lingo:
SITKA
The most advanced camo technology.
Best for hikes and cold hunts but most lightweight wear works for southern weather.
Always go a layer lighter than you think! It is more insulating than it looks!
NEVER mix patterns.
It normally runs a little small – size up by one size.
Pay attention to the special features — you can read about them on our website or on the tags if you are coming in person.
When in doubt, always ask. Chances are, if you describe your hunter we have a few options in mind of just what to buy for him/her.
For more, read this article we wrote previously on the features of Sitka. If you have the slightest idea of what your hunter needs, this will narrow it down to an exact description.
Dr. Squatch is an all-natural hygiene brand for men. Not only do they have great bar soaps, they also have toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, cologne and even beard oil — the whole ensemble when it comes to hygiene.
In one of our bundle bags, you can order one of each of those things wrapped up for the tree or to use as stocking stuffers! The scents are pretty darn good (some women even use the soaps) — perfect for a practical but indulgent gift.
These are some things to remember when buying:
Bundle bags include 1 bar soap, 1 shampoo OR conditioner, and 1 toothpaste.
The bar soap does “melt away” in the shower, so it is best to have a rack for it to sit on to keep it from sitting in a pool of water (we have stylish burnt-wood soap racks in store!)
This brand actually works well for men and women; there is a scent for everyone although most are masculine.
“Morning toothpaste” is citrus and mint-flavored, specially for nice breath that will last all day.
“Night toothpaste,” is a spearmint stain-fighter to take off the stains and grime after a long day.
There isn’t much we need to explain about the versatility of Huk gear; it speaks for itself!
It is lightweight and stylish — perfect on the water but also good for a Sunday morning. You can pretty much get anything out of it. It comes in men’s and women’s and there will likely be some sales on it this month.
BUT there are some hidden features (aren’t there always?🤣) that you will want to look out for.
Cool features:
Huk button-down shirts have a microfiber cloth built in to the chest pocket or on the edge of the shirt to clean your sunglasses or phone.
Instead of having a mesh layer covered by another layer of fabric on the back of their dress shirts, the backs of Huk shirts have tiny holes in them to let out the heat. You can’t see them unless you get close, but they will surely keep you cool!
Some of the lightweight hoodies even have vents on the sides – ideal for long days on the boat to protect your skin from the sun while letting the air in!
Huk t-shirts are available in our store. They are some of our favorites because of their softness and they have great designs!
This is one of our newer items and people have been going crazy about it!
They are disappearing fast from the store so if you want one before Christmas, now would be the time to come in or order one on our online shop. This is what the hardcore hunters are after. You won’t believe the technology of these things.
Like everything else in the outdoor industry, figuring out exactly what to buy for a functional kit can get a little messy. Here’s what you’ll need.
The tether - the tether is the primary component. This is what will hold the hunter to the tree and keep him/her there as he/she inches up — it’s flexible it enables the hunter to easily maneuver around the tree.
The saddle is like a harness that connects the hunter to the tether and supports him/her on the tree.
Lineman's belt connects to both the hunter and the tree so there is virtually no risk at all of falling!
Climbing sticks are what you use to climb up the tree. They latch onto the tree-like temporary ladder rungs so you can pull yourself up.
That's everything you need, but most add on the predator platform, a (roughly) 1’ by 1’ surface to stand on while you lean back in your saddle.
We know it’s winter, but in the south it's only a matter of time before that changes! For the outdoorsmen in your life, some lures, a tackle box, or a startup kit for bow fishing may be just what he’s been wanting, whether he knows it or not!
Fishing is really a year-round sport — there's always somewhere to be fished on the edge of America or off of one of its many islands. And even when that is a long trek, if you call someone with a pond or knock on their door a few times, chances are you can go fishing there too!
This year, we expanded our fishing section so don’t let the weather fool you. The fish may not be biting yet but with our wide selection, you can’t be sure it will stay that way for long! Stop by and browse our fishing section for poles, cleaning tools, lures, etc., or hit us up (online or in-store) for a full bow fishing setup!
We don’t recommend coming in to get a bow for someone as a gift — at least not if you are hoping to shoot it the next day. If you want to get someone something that big, we support you completely… but know that you will have to come in to set it up with that person before the real fun can be had. Bows make great Christmas gifts but it goes without saying that the experience will not be automatic.
Accessories, however, almost always make great gifts!
Here is a list of the best ones to get as a gift:
A new target for the competition archer or outdoorsman in your life.
Good broadheads — most choose Exodus and Rage as their favorite brands.
A Garmin sight or watch — both make wonderful gifts and they will be blown away by the technology! It’s every outdoorsman’s best bet!
Bow mounts, like a certain quiver or stabilizer.
Hunt-ready kit — we have plenty of things, like no scent and acorn crush, to prepare for the biggest animal you’ve seen all year.
The list really goes on for accessories here at Bowtreader, so come on by and we can help you choose the perfect ones for your outdoorsman.
Have a lover of blades in your life? An active hunter, a fisherman, or someone who is just getting into the sport, a camper, or anyone with an eye for sharp tools or weapons?
A knife might not be a bad idea.
The specifics will differ on what you are looking for depending on the one who will be receiving the gift — we won’t give too long of an explanation here because there are already two guides available.
Online each knife listed is described, and in-store we have a walking, talking knife guru who can customize your perfect fit depending on what you think you want, what you actually want, what you need, and what your wallet says.
The walking, talking one is better than the online one and we call him The Dub — if you would like to buy someone a knife for Christmas, we consider him the most qualified expert in town to help you choose from our selection.
Another great gift is to rehab an old knife to look brand new again and The Dub is working on that too! Don’t hesitate to stop by and let him take a look at yours. What he can’t fix, he can make up for in a good conversation and there's always a comparable option in his domain at the store: the knife case!
Finally one of our favorites! If you want something personal, this is the way to go.
We put a lot of time and effort into making unique branded merchandise including our own designs on t-shirts, decals, hats, and tumblers in the most functional styles that we use every day. We have plenty of t-shirts, some new hats that could arrive any day now that you won’t want to miss 😉 and our first Bowtreader women’s hoodie just arrived.
It means a lot to us to see people around town sporting our own designs! We are so thankful for your support and the ratings we have had for our soft shirts. Trust us when we say, their comfort played a huge part in our decision to design so many in the first place!
That’s all for now but we hope this has been a helpful addition to your toolbox for holiday shopping. Buying for outdoorsmen can be hard, but we got you covered.
So close the laptop, begin the interrogation, plan the shopping trip, add to the cart, and ultimately show your appreciation for the one (or two, or three... or ten!) outdoorsman in your life this season!
