Good morning folks!
At Bowtreader, we have a sharp memory. (Actually, we have a lot of sharp things, but that's getting ahead of ourselves.)
We've been thinking of everything we have told you about so far —
But obviously, our minds aren’t quite as sharp as we thought because there's one important thing we have left out.
KNIVES!
They're small but incredibly useful. Compact, but full of features. We carry them every day. We use them to eat, prepare food, work outside, open packages, and, in some cases, defend ourselves. Some people have been known to use them as a toothpick while others use them for emergency surgeries or to shave (ouch).
No doubt about it, they really are incredible tools!
We have a wide variety of knives in our store that deserve to be featured. Of course we have the online store to give you the general specs, but we’d like to share a list with you of our favorites!
Below are our top 10 most unique knives and their killer features! Buckle in, you don’t want to miss this.
Ranking 10 on the list is the Kershaw Scallion, a top knife for functionality and defense! They are small enough to fit easily in your pocket or wallet and flip open easily with the SpeedSafe system, which makes them a favorite of many of our young users.
While these two inch long knives are stout and durable for everyday use, they can also be used for defense because of their quick deployment. Our Bowtreader girls have been known to carry them around and can testify that they are very practical when it comes to the tags and seals of everyday life!
This is an awesome tool with a series of different kinds, including Bradford Guardian 3 N690, Bradford Guardian 3.5 Sheepsfoot N690, and Bradford Guardian 3.5 Tanto N690 - each of which have their own unique features.
The blade is a thick and durable “sheepsfoot” style, the handle is comfortable in your hand, and if you're looking for a long-term knife, this is a great one to have on hand. Whether you're opening bottles, working in the garden, cleaning animals, or on a camp in the middle of nowhere, the Guardian has enough durability to get you through... and a sloping sharp point to do a little better!
The CIVIVI Elementum is an essential. CIVIVI is a lesser known brand that we are excited to have in our inventory. CIVIVI knives look good, feel good, work well and get the job done- all without breaking the bank.
They are straight and sharp, easy to take care of, and they have such cool designs. They come in fixed blade and pocket-carry form and every color, texture and style you can think of. That’s it. They are just amazing.
(PS: It's on sale right now 😉)
Okay, now we are getting really good. You can pretty much look at this knife and tell it's awesome.
It’s textured with a partially curved edge near the handle so the end seems to jut out farther. It opens with the SpeedSafe system like it’s little cousin, the Scallion… if the Scallion was twice its size and had a much heftier blade!
John, the owner of Bowtreader, has kept one of these on his person for years and so does our knife guy, “The Dub.” Both will tell you it will last a lifetime and it can be used for everything you might need!
Until now, every knife has been a top choice for functional knives. If that's your goal, then these next few might not be for you... but you'll definitely still want to check them out.
If you, however, want a sword-sized, machete-like, beast of a knife (what Crocodile Dundee would refer to as a “knoyf!”), this is the perfect one for you.
The Junglas (pronounced “Hoonglas,”) is a working knife that can be used as a machete, hatchet, or meat knife — it’s features make it ideal for camping and one-stop-shops for long trips.
The cons? We admit, it can be awkward to carry and it isn’t exactly the kind of weapon you can easily keep in your bag for carry on. But if you're walking through thick woods or scouting out land on a mountain trail, this should be your go-to!
Looking for another smaller knife to take with you on a hike or camp? Well, this one's uses go a little farther than camping!
Esee Model 5 was designed for survival. It's made with carbon steel that was finished with a textured powder — army green and canvas tan — hardcore and durable. If it's specs aren’t enough already, we should also add that it was designed by military SERE instructors specifically for downed pilot survival.
Needless to say, when you run out of options, this tool can get you out of a pinch!
We've just passed the halfway point, so you know this is about to get good!
The Kershaw Leek is another “plain” knife; another one of what Kershaw calls EDC’s (every day carry). The blunt truth with knives is, all of the every day carry ones are the best.
Fancy looking knives and big knives that'll intimidate people and remind them of Crocodile Dundee are great and cool to have, but durable knives, that can function in every situation, are always at the top of the list in our book.
The Kershaw Leek is the best combination of style and functionality we have found!
They come in every style, color, and wash in both the blade and the handle. They are safe to use (as relative as safety can be for a weapon), but at the same time, as sharp and efficient as you can get. It rates the top because it is another one we find ourselves using a. LOT.
If this doesn’t make the top ten for people at Bowtreader, nothing will!
Ever noticed on superhero/action movies, the characters almost always deploy their knives in a snap and then retract them like a lion sucking in a claw. Seems unworldly, but definitely not impossible.
Introducing the Launch 8!
The word “Launch” implies that the blade reclines seamlessly from the handle in a matter of less than a second. The knife itself is lightweight, the build is completely symmetrical, and it can go from pocket weight to bloodthirsty shard with the click of a button… which means you need to be extremely careful with it.
If this one didn’t make the list we would be out of our minds. This is one cool tool, great for quick work and excellent for defense.
We know what you’re thinking. That's a mouthful! But when it comes to the elitist of knives, we’ve learned it takes at least ten syllables 😉. This one is a very close second to our top favorite.
ZT (Zero Tolerance Knives) uses numbers and codes to name their knives and we have found this one to be one of the coolest ones on the market. Not only does it have all of the specs of an EDC tight-clinging, pocket-clipped knife (with a one-handed opening system, lightweight build, comfortable handle — all that jazz) it’s also made of a mixture of steel, carbon, and titanium. Which makes it pretty durable.
These knives are made to be carried every day, but reinforced with everything you could want in a knife, woven over with carbon fibers, including a luminescent variation so it even glows in the dark! Seriously, you can’t get much cooler than this.
Except for our number one…
Prepare yourself for what we consider among the best knives on the market and the best one we carry in our selection: the Spyderco Para 3!
The Para 3 is the easiest opening, it has the best grip, it is the safest choice (again, relative to how safe weapons can be because this baby gets SHARP) and overall, what we have found the best shape for a knife, both in the hand and on the cutting edge.
Sure, looking at it, it may seem a little underwhelming compared to the last specimen but it's undisputed among our family of users that it is the greatest blade. At least by The “Dub,” our knife guy… who has every one of the knives above… and uses this one more than any of them. He swears by it and to us that rates it in the very top!
Knives are tools. They're meant to be used for the right reasons, at the right times — and that's exactly the creed our family goes by for using them!
It's important to remember they are weapons every time we handle them because, aside from everything, they really can do some damage. We hope by sharing some of our personal preferences on these incredible inventions, that you would gain a better understanding of their innovation. And that we would inspire you to use them wisely every time you have a need!
